Vehicle Seized Under Section 59 Following Community Reports

PCSOs from the Kentish Town Safer Neighbourhood Team have seized a vehicle under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 following multiple reports from concerned local residents.

The vehicle had been reported on several occasions for being driven in a careless and inconsiderate manner, contrary to Section 3 of the Road Traffic Act 1988. Its use was causing alarm, distress and annoyance to members of the public.

What is Section 59?

Section 59 gives police powers to take action against drivers using vehicles in an anti-social manner. Where a vehicle is driven carelessly, inconsiderately or off-road, and that behaviour causes nuisance, alarm or distress to the public, officers can issue warnings and, where appropriate, seize the vehicle.

These powers are specifically intended to tackle anti-social vehicle use and protect the safety and quality of life of local communities.

Positive Action Taken

The vehicle was located by officers on Pandian Way and has now been seized and impounded. The owner will be required to pay all recovery and storage costs before it can be reclaimed.
